Al-Sadd qualified for the quarterfinals of the Amir Cup 2024 after a 3-2 victory over Al-Markhiya in the Round of 16 clash that was played at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Thursday.
The result means that the Wolves will play either Al-Wakrah or Muaither in the quarterfinal, which will be held on the 13th of May.
Al-Sadd went ahead in the 16th minute through Baghdad Bounedjah, who headed in following a corner delivered by Akram Afif. Paulo Otavio doubled the advantage in the 34th minute with a powerful strike, after cutting in from the left and getting past two defenders. Abdullah Al-Yazidi then scored his first goal for the club at the hour mark, with a header to make the score 3-0.
Al-Markhiya reduced the deficit with two late goals from Driss Fettouhi (84′) and Naoufal Banns (89′) but Al-Sadd held on to secure the victory.
