Al-Sadd star Akram Afif expressed his great happiness after winning the AFC Asian Player of the Year award for 2023, marking his second time after his initial win in 2019. He received the award on Tuesday in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, President of Al Sadd Club, during the AFC Awards ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea.
Following his win, Akram said, “I congratulate my wife, who has supported me throughout the year, my teammates at the club and national team, and the coaching and medical staff both at the club and with the national team.”
The Al Sadd player added, “I feel more nervous now compared to taking three penalties in the final. Praise be to God for winning the award, and I thank the AFC for the wonderful ceremony and this special honour.”
He continued, “Winning the Asian Player of the Year award is not the end of the road. The goal now is to keep working hard, and my aim is to win it a third time to be the crowning achievement in my journey in the world of football.”
