Al-Sadd’s first team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2023 Amir Cup with a 3-1 victory over Umm Salal in their quarter-final match at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Tuesday.
Al-Sadd will face Al-Shahania in the next round after this victory.
Hassan Al-Haydos netted the first goal in the 52nd minute, followed by Akram Afif scoring in the 57th minute, and then Ayoub El-Kaabi adding the third goal in stoppage time. Umm Salal’s only goal was scored by Yassin Al-Bakhit in the 82nd minute.
Umm Salal defender Adel Rihaili was sent off in the 87th minute of the game.
The match started with both teams exhibiting strong and energetic performances. Al-Sadd’s players attempted to take control of the game, particularly with the midfield being congested. Guilherme Torres had a powerful shot in the 12th minute that went over the crossbar of Umm Salal’s goal.
The Al-Sadd team continued to press forward, looking for the opening goal, with Hassan Al-Haydos nearly scoring in the 32nd minute with a shot that crossed Umm Salal’s crossbar. Akram Afif also had a shot in the 40th minute that went over the bar.
The second half started with Al-Sadd coming out with greater intensity. Hassan Al-Haydos scored the first goal of the match in the 52nd minute, with a strong shot from outside the box that beat Umm Salal goalkeeper Khalifa Abubakar to his right.
Al-Sadd continued to exert pressure, with Akram Afif scoring their second goal in the 56th minute after taking advantage of a defensive error by Umm Salal. Baghdad Bounedjah intervened and then passed the ball to Afif, who calmly placed it into the net.
Umm Salal managed to pull one back in the 82nd minute through Yassin Al-Bakhit, but Al-Sadd’s Ayoub El-Kaabi scored the third goal in stoppage time, securing the victory for Al-Sadd with a 3-1 scoreline.
