The Al-Sadd first team secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the Amir Cup 2023 after defeating Al-Markhiya 4-0 in the Round of 16 match held on Tuesday at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
The Wolves’ victory was led by a remarkable performance that saw Baghdad Bounedjah scoring the first goal in the 11th minute, followed by Ali Asad’s goal in the 32nd minute, and Santi Cazorla’s in the 63rd minute. Ayoub Al Kaabi sealed the deal with the fourth goal in the 99th minute. Al-Sadd will now face Umm Salal in the quarter-finals.
Right from the start, Al-Sadd displayed an impressive attacking style, as Bounedjah scored the opening goal in the 11th minute. The move came courtesy of a great pass from Guillerme Torres to Akram Afif, whose attempt was blocked by the goalkeeper. However, Bounedjah was on hand to finish it off and give his side the lead.
Al-Sadd maintained their momentum and controlled the match thereafter, which allowed Ali Asad to add the second goal in the 32nd minute after a successful incursion by Akram Afif from the left side. Asad converted a cross from Afif to mark the second goal for Al-Sadd.
In the 63rd minute, Santi Cazorla extended the lead to 3-0 with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that found the back of the net.
In second half additional time, substitute Ayoub Al-Kaabi made an immediate impact by scoring his first goal for Al-Sadd and the fourth of the match from a penalty kick. Overall, it was a dominant display by Al-Sadd, and they will look to carry this form into their upcoming match against Umm Salal.
