Al-Sadd’s first team secured a 4-2 victory against Al-Wakrah in the QNB Stars League 2022-23 Round 18 match, held at Saoud bin Abdul Rahman Stadium on Saturday.
With this win, Al-Sadd increased their total points to 35. Ayoub El-Kaabi scored two goals for Al-Sadd in the 27th and 88th minutes, while Akram Afif scored twice in the 48th and 66th minutes. Meanwhile, Trent Sainsbury scored the first goal for Al-Wakrah in the 57th minute, and Gelson Dalla scored their second goal in the 87th minute.
The match began with a quick and enthusiastic pace from both teams, with Al-Sadd players dominating the midfield, especially with the great passing between Ali Asad, Akram Afif, Ayoub El Kaabi, and Hassan Al Haydos.
Al-Sadd took the lead in the match through El-Kaabi’s goal in the 27th minute, with a powerful shot from the left side that beat Al-Wakrah goalkeeper.
In the second half, Al-Sadd increased their dominance with Afif’s goal in the 48th minute, which was set up by Ali Asad’s pass through the defense.
Although Al-Wakrah managed to reduce the lead with a goal by Australian defender Trent Sainsbury in the 57th minute, Al-Sadd regained control with Afif’s second goal in the 66th minute, after he was assisted by El-Kaabi.
The two teams continued their attempts with Al-Wakrah scoring their second goal through Gelson Dala in the 87th minute, but Al-Sadd’s El-Kaabi netted his second goal in the 88th minute, to clinch the 4-2 victory.
