Al-Sadd recorded their first victory of the season, defeating Al-Ahli 3-2 in the QNB Stars League Round 3 game played at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.
The result meant that the Wolves increased their tally to 4 points, from a win, a draw and a defeat.
Al Sadd’s goals were scored by Ahmed Al-Saeed (18′), Guilherme Torres (45+3′), and Rodrigo Tabata (87′), while Yazan Al-Naimat (9′) and Sofiane Hanni (42′).
Al-Ahli made the breakthrough in the game through Al-Naimat, who finished off a counter-attack in the 9th minute.
Ahmed Al-Saeed then equalised for Al-Sadd, with a superb volley, following a cross from the right by Abdulla Al-Yazidi in the 18th minute.
Al-Sadd increased the pressure as they went in search of the goal that would put them in front, and Baghdad Bounedjah came close in the 33rd minute, but his effort was saved by Al-Ahli goalkeeper Yazan Naim.
Sofiane Hanni then scored for Al-Ahli in the 42nd minute, after Al-Sadd custodian Jehad Mohammed had first kept out a shot from Al-Naimat.
The Wolves were able to end the first half on level terms, after Guilherme tapped the ball in from close range in the third minute of stoppage time, following a header from Bounedjah that came back off the woodwork.
From the beginning of the second half, Al-Sadd looked to go in front for the first time in the game but had to wait until the end to finally manage to score. In the 87th minute, Andre Ayew set up Rodrigo Tabata with a short pass in the box, and the veteran made no mistake with his strike that flew in past Yazan Naim.
