Al-Sadd secured a dominant 3-1 victory over Al-Duhail in their QNB Stars League Round 21 clash on Thursday, held at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium. The win propelled Al-Sadd to 44 points, with the team remaining in third place.
Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring for Al-Sadd in the 41st minute, followed by Akram Afif’s goal in the 51st minute, and Rodrigo Tabata’s impressive strike in the 75th minute. Al-Duhail scored their lone goal through Michael Olunga’s penalty in the 73rd minute.
Al-Sadd threatened Al-Duhail’s goal early on, with Afif’s shot in the fourth minute, while Olunga’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Meshaal Barshim in the 10th minute.
The Wolves almost took the lead in the 22nd minute after Al-Haydos crossed from the left side to Baghdad, who tried to score with his foot but collided with goalkeeper Salah Zakaria. Al-Duhail’s defense pushed the ball out.
The match continued with both teams making strong attempts to score. In the 41st minute, Bounedjah scored the first goal for Al-Sadd after receiving Ali Asad’s pass, dodging defenders from Al-Duhail, and hitting the right corner.
Al-Sadd maintained their offensive strength in the second half, and Afif scored the second goal for the team in the 51st minute, following a pass from Bounedjah. Olunga managed to reduce the difference in the 73rd minute with a penalty kick, but Tabata secured the win for Al-Sadd with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the 75th minute.
The match witnessed a red card for Al-Sadd defender Tarek Salman in the 87th minute.
