Al-Sadd continued with their dominant run in the QNB Stars League with a 6-0 victory over Al-Wakrah in the rescheduled Round 11 game which was played on Monday at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium.
The result saw the Wolves increase their points tally at the top of the table to 40 from 14 games, with two postponed games against Qatar SC and Al-Rayyan yet to be played.
Akram Afif opened the scoring in the 12th minute, netting past Saoud Al-Khater with the outside of his foot after receiving a defence-splitting pass from Ali Asad.
Five minutes later, Rodrigo Tabata made it 2-0. Akram exchanged passes with Bounedjah in a quick move, got into the box and squared the ball to Tabata, who tapped it into an empty goal.
Captain Hassan Al-Haydos was the next to get on the scoresheet, and once again, Al-Sadd created a brilliant move before it. Ali Asad dribbled into the box from the right and played in a low ball towards Akram who tricked his marker with a feint and left it for Al-Haydos to smash in.
The scoring continued after the halftime break, and Akram scored his second of the game in the 58th minute, culminating a solo run with a shot that went in off the post.
In the 67th minute, substitute Andre Ayew headed in following a free-kick from Santi Cazorla, only moments after coming on, to take the score to 5-0.
Al-Wakrah’s Boualem Mesmoudi was then sent off in the 79th minute.
Abdelkarim Hassan then made it 6-0 in the second minute of stoppage time, after being gifted the easiest of finishes by Afif’s perfect squared ball.
