Sánchez stresses importance of Sharjah clash

Al Sadd coach Félix Sánchez underlined the importance of his side’s upcoming match against UAE’s Sharjah in the AFC Champions League Elite 2025-26, which will be played on Tuesday evening at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Sánchez said: “The AFC Champions League Elite is a very tough competition, and everyone knows that. This game is a big challenge for us. We need to take advantage of playing at home and in front of our fans. We are fully prepared for the match, and we know how important it is after drawing in the first round. Our aim is to put in a strong performance and achieve the result we want, one that will satisfy our supporters.”

The Spaniard added: “We are used to pressure, and we have to believe in our players and in what we can deliver. This match is an opportunity for us — we’re at home and we must make the most of it. The group stage has eight matches, and we need to use the circumstances of each one. Playing Sharjah at home is a chance we must be ready for.”

Sánchez continued: “Of course, everyone wants to win the AFC Champions League title, and so do we. The team is working hard, and we need to focus on the small but important details. Preparation is part of our job, and we are ready for this challenge.”

Al Sadd defender Romain Saïss also spoke, saying: “This is our first home match of the campaign, and we must take advantage of that. Above all, it’s a game for the fans. We know expectations are high, and we are ready to fight for three points. We will battle for our chances and for victory.”

Saïss added: “We’ve worked hard over the past few days to prepare properly for this game. We’re very happy to be back at our stadium with our supporters behind us. We expect their motivation, and we will give everything we have to reach our goal — which is to win.”
