Al Sadd player Paulo Otávio expressed his happiness with the victory achieved by his side over Al-Rayyan in the Qatar Clasico, as part of Week 9 of the 2025–2026 Doha Bank QNB Stars League season.

Paulo said in his remarks to the club’s website: “It was very difficult for me to watch the game from outside. It was painful to see my teammates running up and down and me not being able to help them. But I was very, very happy with the result — really proud of the team’s effort.” ... 

Akram Afif: The big win over Al Rayyan in the Clasico is not a benchmark

Akram Afif expressed his happiness with Al Sadd’s 5–1 victory over Al Rayyan in the ninth week of the Doha Bank Stars League.

Al-Sadd defeat Al-Rayyan in the Qatar Clasico

Al Sadd claimed a 5–1 victory over Al Rayyan in the ninth round of the Doha Bank Stars League for the 2025–2026 season. The match took place on Thursday, October 30, at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Al Sadd Club.

With this win, Al Sadd raised their tally to 11 points. The goals for Al Sadd were scored by Roberto Firmino in the 12th minute, Boualem Khoukhi in the 45+10th minute, Akram Afif in the 52nd minute, and Rafa Mujica in the 74th minute. ... 

Sergio Alegre: The players know how important this game is

Al-Sadd coach Sergio Alegre spoke about the difficulty of his side’s upcoming Doha Bank Stars League game against Al-Rayyan, in Round 9 of the competition.

Addressing the media at the pre-match press conference, Alegre said: “Obviously the game against Al-Rayyan will be very equal. They are coming from the last game they won against Al-Wakrah, so they will come in a good moment. But we are working and doing our best to get the three points and try to go up in the table.” ...

Al-Sadd’s goal was scored by Akram Afif in the 39th minute. For Al-Arabi, Michael Olunga scored in the 43rd minute, Ahmed Suhail (Al-Sadd defender) scored an own goal in the 45th minute, and Rodri scored in the 80th minute.  ... 

Sergio Alegre: We must be fully prepared against Al-Arabi

Sergio Alegre, the coach of Al-Sadd, stressed the significance of the upcoming match against Al-Arabi in the eighth week of the Doha Bank Stars League for the 2025-2026 season. The match is set to take place on Saturday evening at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Speaking at the press conference, Alegre said: “The upcoming match against Al-Arabi will be very tough. They have a new technical staff, and although their start to the season hasn’t been particularly strong, they have talented players, both foreign professionals and locals.” He added: “It’s a strong match and considered a Qatar football derby. We must be fully prepared to secure the victory.”

Regarding the team’s recent results, the Al-Sadd coach stated: “It’s clear we’re not happy with the outcomes of recent matches. We feel disappointed, but this feeling should motivate the players to turn things around.” He concluded: “We must give our best to earn the three points. Our goal is to stay as close as possible to the top of the league table, and that’s our main objective this season.” ...
