Al-Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his happiness after his side’s 3-1 win over Al-Wehdat, on Matchday 3 of the AFC Champions League group stage.
Speaking during the press conference after the match, Xavi said: “I’m happy to win and get the three points. We played well in the first half, and we succeeded in controlling possession. We were able to score 3 goals and it was possible to increase the number of goals, which could help us in the competition for the top spot.”
He added: “In the second half, we did not perform as required, but the most important thing is the three points. The poor condition of the pitch did not help the team to play in our usual way and it prevented us from scoring more goals.”
About the team’s success in scoring two goals from set-pieces, the coach said: “We always train on set-pieces, and today we have managed to score the first and second goals through them. We have excellent players for that and we will work on improving in the next matches.”
Xavi concluded by saying: “We got 3 important points. Our group is the strongest and most difficult in the Champions League this season, and after the draw between Al-Nassr and Foolad, reaching the top of the group is in our hands.”
