Al-Sadd suffered a 2-0 defeat against Al-Faisaly of Jordan in the fourth round of the group stage of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League. The match took place at the Amman International Stadium on Monday evening.
With this loss, Al-Sadd’s tally remained at four points, keeping them in the third position in Group B. Al-Faisaly’s Hatem Al-Rushadi scored in the 57th minute, and Aref Al-Haj added another goal in the 85th minute.
The match began with intensity from both teams, and Khoukhi Boualem came close to giving Al-Sadd the lead in the second minute, but his header found the Al-Faisaly goalkeeper on target.
The game continued with exchanges between the two teams. In the 18th minute, Baghdad Bounedjah unleashed a powerful shot from inside the penalty area, but the Al-Faisaly goalkeeper skillfully deflected it for a corner.
Al-Sadd made their first substitution in the 29th minute, with Guilherme Torres leaving the field due to injury, and Matheus Uribe replacing him. In the 37th minute, Mohammed Waad made a run from the left side and delivered a cross that Otavio met with a shot, but the Al-Faisaly defense cleared it for a corner.
Al-Faisaly Jordan took the lead with the first goal in the 57th minute, scored by Hatem Al-Rushadi.
After Al-Faisaly’s goal, Al-Sadd’s players intensified their efforts. In the 66th minute, Khoukhi Boualem nearly equalized with a headed effort that hit the Al-Faisaly crossbar before being cleared by the Jordanian defense.
In the 85th minute, Al-Faisaly sealed their victory with a second goal, this time by substitute Aref Al-Haj.
