The Amir Cup 2021 draw ceremony was conducted by Qatar Football Association (QFA) at Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Monday. Defending champions Al-Sadd will begin their campaign for another title by facing Muaither in the Round of 16.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Khalid Al Kuwari, QFA’s Director of Marketing and Communications; Ali Hassan Al Salat, Head of Media; Ali Hamoud Al Nuaimi, Head of Competitions, and Hamad Al Hajri, Member of the Competitions Committee who conducted the draw proceedings.
The draw set the route to the final for the participating teams, who will begin from the Round of 16. The teams were divided into two categories A and B, according to the league positions from the 2019-20 seasons. The teams in each category were kept apart from each other in the draw.
The first eight teams from the QNB Stars League (QSL) were placed in Category A. The remaining four teams from the QSL and the top three teams from the second division were placed in Category B, alongside Muaither, the winner of the play-off between the fourth and fifth placed teams of the second division.
The draw then revealed the Round of 16 fixtures, which are as follows:
- Al Duhail x Al Ahli
- Qatar x Al Shamal
- Al Wakrah x Al Kharaitiyat
- Al Rayyan x Al Markhiya
- Al Gharafa x Al Shahania
- Al Sadd x Muaither
- Al Sailiya x Al Khor
- Al Arabi x Umm Salal
The Round of 16 games are set to begin later this month, with the full schedule and venue information to be revealed soon.
