Al-Sadd secured a significant 9-1 victory over Al-Ahli in a postponed fixture from the thirteenth week of the Expo Stars League on Wednesday at Al-Thumama Stadium.
With this win, Al-Sadd strengthened their position at the top of the league table, reaching a tally of 46 points.
Al-Sadd’s goal-scoring spree began early in the game, with Akram Afif finding the net in the third minute, after a well-executed cross from Paulo Otavio.
The pressure from Al-Sadd continued, leading to Afif finding the target in the 19th minute. However, the referee disallowed the goal for offside after a VAR review.
Yousuf Abdurisag extended Al-Sadd’s lead in the 32nd minute with a deceptive shot from the right side. Just three minutes later, Brazilian midfielder Guilherme Torres headed in Al-Sadd’s third goal.
Despite Al-Ahli’s efforts, they struggled to contain Al-Sadd’s relentless attack. Omar Sekou managed to pull one back for Al-Ahli from a corner in the 45th minute, ending the first half with Al-Sadd leading 3-1.
In the second half, Al-Sadd continued to control the game and looked to extend their advantage. Al-Ahli’s Idrissa Doumbia was sent off in the 50th minute, further adding to Al-Sadd’s dominance on the field. Afif found the back of the net once again in the 56th minute, followed by an own goal by Al-Ahli’s Mohamed Abdullah in the 60th minute, which made the score 5-1.
Subsequent substitutions by Al-Sadd saw Baghdad Bounedjah and Ahmed Sayyar entering the field in the 64th minute. Bounedjah made an immediate impact, scoring Al-Sadd’s sixth goal in the 69th minute.
Ilyes Housni also came on, going on to score his first goal for Al-Sadd in the 73rd minute. Bounedjah then added two more goals to his tally in the 80th and 90th minutes, completing his hat-trick and putting the final touch on Al-Sadd’s emphatic 9-1 victory.
