Felix Sanchez: Al-Ahli clash is like a final for us, we’re aware it will be difficult

Felix Sanchez, head coach of Al Sadd, emphasised the difficulty of their upcoming clash against Al Ahli in the 22nd and final round of the 2024–2025 Ooredoo Stars League.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Sanchez said:
“We are heading into our final league match against Al Ahli. In the first-leg match, we managed a hard-fought draw. It’s clear that Al Ahli have had an impressive season. They have a well-organised team, a strong attack, and players capable of making the difference. Overall, they are a high-quality side.”

The Al Sadd coach continued: “This game is like a final for us. The title is still in our hands, which is a positive, but we’re fully aware that it’s going to be a very difficult match.”

The Spanish manager also noted that Al Ahli are aiming to finish the season strongly and currently sit in the top four, making them a potential opponent in the Qatar Cup.

“It’s natural that they’ll play at their highest level. But the most important thing for us is to focus on ourselves. I hope the players will rise to the occasion,” he said.

He concluded: “Winning the league title is hugely important—it comes after 22 rounds of competition. The title always goes to the team that has been the most consistent over the course of the season, and that’s what we’re aiming for.”

Meanwhile, Al Sadd defender Paulo Otávio said: “It’s going to be a very tough match—it’s the final one, and everyone is anticipating it. Everyone has been working hard for this game, and we’ve given so much this season. We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ve been focused from the very beginning to reach this stage. We knew from the first round that it wouldn’t be easy, but we’ve done what was required.”

He continued: “Our fans have supported us throughout the journey, especially in the last seven matches. I believe we now have everything we need to win the title. We are ready to lift the trophy and celebrate it with the team and our supporters.”
