Al-Sadd coach Javi Gracia stressed the importance of his side’s 1-0 victory over Muaither, a result that took them to the quarter-finals of the Amir Cup.
Speaking during the press conference after the match, Gracia said: “To play these kinds of games is not easy for the team. The objective was to keep going in this competition and we achieved it.”
“We were looking forward to the Amir Cup because we want to reach the final. It was not easy for us because we are playing a lot of matches, playing every 3-4 days. It was good to get the result knowing it was not the best performance for us.”
Asked about the performance of the opponents, the coach said: “A lot of times, it is complicated to beat teams like Muaither. This team is not the same as it was 3-4 weeks ago, with a new coach and better players. You can see their level improved.”
He added: “It was a tough game; it was very demanding. You could see this on the pitch. We tried our best. It’s true we missed many chances but we achieved the objective and it’s important for us.”
Gracia concluded by saying: “We won 7 consecutive matches in the league after my arrival and we have 6 more matches left. For sure, we want to keep it that way and we will continue to work to achieve all our goals.”
