QNB Stars League: Al Sadd defeat Al Rayyan 2-1 in the Qatar Clasico

Al Sadd racked up another victory in the QNB Stars League, defeating Al Rayyan 2-1 in the Round 21 game which was played at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Tuesday.

Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring in the fourth minute, before Yohan Boli equalised for Al Rayyan in the 28th minute. Santi Cazorla then netted the winner for Al Sadd from the penalty spot in the 66th minute.

The result meant Al Sadd took their points tally to 57, and remain unbeaten in the league, having already secured the title.

Tuesday’s Qatar Clasico got off to a bright start for Al Sadd. In the fourth minute, Hashim Ali sent a defence-splitting pass for Bounedjah to run onto, and the Algerian made no mistake with a calm finish past Fahad Younis.

Al Rayyan’s reply came in the 28th minute, when Yohan Boli headed in the equaliser following a corner.

The first half ended with the score at 1-1, after Hassan Al Haydos was denied a goal in the 42nd minute, with the referee consulting VAR and deciding on an offside situation in the build-up.

After the break, Al Sadd resumed their attempts for another goal but it took until the midway point of the second half for it to arrive.

The referee pointed towards the penalty spot after a foul by Franck Kom on substitute Ali Asad, and Santi Cazorla duly converted the penalty to put Al Sadd ahead once again.

Cazorla then came close to scoring Al Sadd’s third but his shot in the 85th minute came off the post.

That was it as far as goals were concerned, as Al Sadd maintained the slim lead until the end.
