QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd defeat Qatar SC 1-0

Al-Sadd recorded a 1-0 victory over Qatar SC, in the rescheduled fixture from Round 13 of the QNB Stars League, which was played on Thursday at the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium.

Qatar SC defender Bahaa El-Leithy scored into his own net for the lone goal of the game in the 7th minute. The result meant that Al-Sadd increased their points tally to 49 from 17 games, with a postponed fixture against Al-Rayyan yet to be played.

Al-Sadd started on the front foot and looked to make an early impact. In the 7th minute, Baghdad Bounedjah ran into the box and tried to control a cross from Hassan Al-Haydos, when Qatar SC defender Bahaa intervened, only to see the ball fly into his own net. The own goal was followed by Qatar SC’s efforts to get back into the game, but Al-Sadd remained dominant.

Rodrigo Tabata had a go with a powerful shot in the 29th minute but the ball got deflected out for a corner. In the 41st minute, Bounedjah wasted the chance to make it 2-0 after receiving a through pass from Guilherme; the Algerian’s shot went over the bar.

There were very few concrete chances thereafter as things calmed down, and midway through the second half, Javi Gracia made two changes, bringing on Musaab Khidir and Andre Ayew in place of Tabata and Bounedjah.

Despite attempts from both sides to get a goal, the match went on to end with the 1-0 scoreline, as Al-Sadd took home the valuable three points and got closer to retaining the league title.
