QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd defeat Qatar SC 3-1

Al-Sadd recorded another victory in the QNB Stars League, after coming from behind to defeat Qatar SC 3-1 in the Round 2 game which was played on Thursday at Khalifa International Stadium.

Qatar SC opened the scoring in the 35th through Sebastian Soria, before Andre Ayew scored the equalizing goal in the 63rd minute. Guilherme Torres added the second goal for Al Sadd in the 77th minute, while Baghdad Bounedjah went on to conclude the scoring in the 83rd minute.

With this victory, the Wolves climbed to the top of the table with six points coming from two wins in two games.

Al-Sadd started the game strongly and created chances early on, with Ayew threatening in the box before the ball was cleared out for a corner, while Mohammed Waad saw his shot hit the side-netting.

As the first half progressed, Al-Sadd kept up the pressure, but against the run of play, it was Qatar SC who took the lead in the 35th minute. Isaac Mbenza played a ball forward for Sebastian Soria, who got past the Al-Sadd defence and scored with a chipped finish over Meshaal Barsham.

Minutes later, Ayew was brought down in the box but the referee signalled for the continuation of play after a VAR review.

The first half ended with Qatar SC carrying the slender 1-0 lead, but Al-Sadd emerged after the break with more determination to get back into the game. The Wolves’ efforts were aided by the introduction of Rodrigo Tabata and Hassan Al-Haydos off the bench. In the 57th minute, Ayew sent in a cross that Baghdad Bounedjah met with his head, but the ball flew above the Qatar SC crossbar.

Ayew then succeeded in finding the equaliser in the 63rd minute, getting past a host of defenders before firing in a powerful low shot past Qatar SC keeper Jassim Al Hail.

After the goal, Al-Sadd grew in confidence and Guilherme Torres made it 2-1 in the 78th minute with a superb strike from outside the box.

In the 83rd minute, Al-Haydos delivered a great cross towards Bounedjah and the Algerian made no mistake with his perfect header that flew in past the keeper.

Al-Haydos then sent in another similar cross for substitute Yusuf Abdurisag late on, but his header somehow went wide from close range. In the end, the referee blew his whistle to signal a 3-1 win for Al-Sadd which maintained their 100% record.
