Al-Sadd’s first team suffered a 1-2 loss against Al-Ahli in Round 15 of the QNB Stars League at Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium on Monday. The match saw Akram Afif score the only goal for Al-Sadd in the 36th minute, while Al-Ahli scored two goals through Oumar Sekou in the 45th and 71st minutes.
Following the loss, Al-Sadd’s tally remained at 22 points from 13 games, with two postponed matches yet to be played against Qatar SC and Al-Duhail.
The match started with Al-Sadd dominating the possession and trying to threaten Al-Ahli’s goal with more than one ball. Khoukhi Boualem had a shot in the 7th minute that was saved by Yazan Naim Ali twice, and Baghdad Bounedjah’s header in the 13th minute was also kept away by the Al-Ahli goalkeeper.
Despite Al-Sadd’s continued pressure, they wasted the opportunity to take the lead with Boualem’s header pushed away by the Al-Ahli goalkeeper in the 24th minute. Akram Afif eventually put Al-Sadd ahead with the first goal in the 36th minute through a beautiful exchange of passes with Baghdad. Afif penetrated the Al-Ahli defence and settled the ball in the left corner, scoring the first goal.
However, Al-Ahli managed to equalize in the last minute of the first half through Oumar Sekou, resulting in the first half ending in a 1-1 stalemate.
Al-Sadd started the second half by pressing hard, and Boualem had the opportunity to score the second goal in the 50th minute, but his header hit the right post of the goal. In the 71st minute, Al-Sadd’s defense made a mistake in pushing the ball away, which led to Sekou scoring his second goal and giving Al-Ahli the lead.
Al-Sadd tried to score an equaliser in the final minutes, but Al-Ahli’s defence and goalkeeper remained solid, and the match ended with Al-Ahli winning 2-1.
