QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd pull away at the top after 7-0 win over Al-Khor

Al-Sadd continued their winning run in the QNB Stars League, after a huge 7-0 victory over Al-Khor in the Round 15 game which was played on Wednesday at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

The result meant that the Wolves increased their points tally to 41, which extended the lead at the top of the QNB Stars League table to 13 points, ahead of second-placed Al-Duhail.

Rodrigo Tabata netted a hat-trick (36′, 48′, 57′) and Baghdad Bounedjah got a brace (7′, 33′) for Al-Sadd, with a penalty from Santi Cazorla (41′) and a goal from substitute Ali Asad (71′) also contributing to the scoreline.

The opening goal arrived in the 7th minute, when Nam Tae-hee floated in a cross towards the six-yard box and Bounedjah was at the right position to get a touch and score past the keeper.

Al-Sadd kept up the pressure after the opener and could have scored a second in the 24th minute, when Hassan Al-Haydos sent a powerful shot towards the Al-Khor goal, but Baba Djibril was able to keep it out for a corner.

In the 33rd minute, Bounedjah returned to double Al-Sadd’s lead. After a quick counter, Nam Tae-hee set up Al-Haydos for a shot, but the latter decided to pass instead and it was the unmarked Bounedjah who got the final touch as Al-Sadd went 2-0 up.

Just three minutes later, the third goal arrived. Santi Cazorla sent an aerial ball into the box only to see the Al-Khor defence clear the ball. However, the clearance fell to Rodrigo Tabata, who took a moment before scoring with a beautiful dipping strike.

Al-Sadd then scored their fourth goal in the 41st minute and it came via the penalty spot. The referee awarded the penalty after Akram Afif was brought down in the box by Thamer Jamal, and Santi Cazorla stepped up to deliver and ensure a 4-0 lead for the Wolves at the end of the first half.

The goalscoring resumed right after the break, as Tabata applied the finishing touch to a great passing move in the 48th minute, making it 5-0. Then, in the 57th minute, the 40-year-old completed his hat-trick, scoring with a calm finish after being set up by Afif.

The seventh goal came in the 71st minute, and it was Ali Asad who got it, scoring with an easy tap-in after a precise low cross from Al-Haydos on the left.
