QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd remain top after 4-1 win over Al-Arabi

Al-Sadd registered a big 4-1 win over Al-Arabi in their QNB Stars League Round 6 game which was played at the Grand Hamad Stadium on Sunday.

This result ensures that the Wolves remain top of the QNB Stars League table with 16 points from 6 games. Baghdad Bounedjah (12’), Santi Cazorla (30’), Abdelkarim Hassan (61’) and Rodrigo Tabata (81’) scored for Al-Sadd, while Aron Gunnarsson netted Al-Arabi’s lone goal (74’).

The game started off very well for Al-Sadd who attacked early on, and got their reward in the 12th minute, when Abdelkarim Hassan’s cross from the left was headed in by Baghdad Bounedjah.

In the 30th minute, Santi Cazorla doubled the Wolves’ lead. Pedro sent in a low cross from the right towards the edge of the box, and Cazorla arrived right on time to finish past Mahmoud Abunada.

The first half would thus end with Al-Sadd carrying a 2-0 lead. After the restart, Xavi Hernandez’s side pushed on further and their efforts paid off with Abdelkarim getting on the scoresheet in the 61st minute. He played a one-two with Akram Afif before deftly lobbing the keeper, making it 3-0.

Al-Arabi went on to reduce the deficit through Aron Gunnarsson in the 74th minute. Following a set-piece, the Iceland international’s powerful effort went in with a deflection off Rodrigo Tabata.

Tabata, who had come on as a substitute, soon made an impact at the other end. In the 81st minute, he curled in a great free-kick to score the final goal of the game, giving Al-Sadd a 4-1 win.
