Wesam Rizk, the coach of Al-Sadd, discussed the significance of the upcoming match against Al-Wakrah in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Amir Cup.
During the press conference, the team’s leader stated, “We have an important match in the quarter-finals of the Amir Cup against Al-Wakrah. We understand the importance of this encounter and are preparing well to secure qualification to the semi-finals.”
He continued, “Congratulations to Al-Wakrah for winning the Qatar Cup. The upcoming match won’t be easy, and advancing to the semi-finals will be a significant response following our recent loss. We are competing strongly for the Amir Cup title, expecting a tough match that everyone will enjoy, and we will strive to secure qualification to the semi-finals.”
Rizk pointed out that in the recent match against Al-Markhiya, there were some mistakes. “In the Amir Cup, all matches are tough, and no team has qualified easily. We must have remain fully focused as there’s no room for errors in cup matches.”
Regarding the decline in the performance of striker Baghdad Bounedjah, Wesam stated, “Baghdad is one of the key pillars of the team, a brave and strong fighter. He’s one of the most important players in Al-Sadd’s history. No player in the world maintains peak performance for nine years. As always, we expect the best from him in the upcoming match against Al-Wakrah.”
He added, “Our players have participated in numerous matches this season with both the club and the national team. There have been some setbacks in certain matches, and we accept criticism openly. However, there are some small details that not everyone is aware of.”
He concluded, “As champions of the league, we will approach the match with our character and style of play. The players have a great responsibility, to advance to the final, and not just the semi-finals. We are fully aware that the path ahead won’t be easy.”
