Al-Sadd registered a convincing 3-1 win over Al-Duhail in the rescheduled QNB Stars League Round 3 game, which was played at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Wednesday.
Nam Tae-hee opened the scoring for Al-Sadd in the 22nd minute, before Guilherme Torres made it 2-0 in the 38th minute. Nam then returned to score his second and Al-Sadd’s third in the 70th minute. Dudu scored a consolation goal for Al-Duhail in the 86th minute.
The result sees Al-Sadd move into second place in the league table with 10 points from 4 games, after 3 wins and a draw.
The Wolves got off to a great start and almost got an early breakthrough in the third minute, with only the post denying Akram Afif. More chances arrived as Al-Sadd kept up the pressure, and in the 22nd minute, they broke the deadlock through Nam. The South Korean received a pass from Santi Cazorla, before scoring with a superb strike that went in past a helpless goalkeeper.
Another goal arrived towards the end of the first half, when Guilherme scored in the 38th minute. The Brazilian met Hassan Al-Haydos’s free-kick delivery with a powerful header to get his first goal for the club.
Just before halftime, Al-Duhail threatened Al-Sadd’s goal with their first serious opportunity, but Meshaal Barsham did well to deny Dudu.
After the break, Al-Sadd emerged with a balanced approach while also looking for chances to extend their lead further. Xavi Hernandez went on to make two substitutions around the hour mark, first bringing on Ahmed Suhail in place of Tarek Salman and then replacing Yousuf Abdurisag with Abdelkarim Hassan.
In the 70th minute, Nam scored his second of the night. He picked up a headed pass from Afif before getting into the box and sending a powerful shot past Mohammed Al-Bakri to make it 3-0.
Three minutes later, Meshaal came up with an impressive save to keep out a header from Mohammed Muntari. Al-Sadd then made a double substitution, with Mohammed Waad and Musaab Khidir replacing Pedro Miguel and Guilherme.
Al-Duhail had a goal disallowed in the 77th minute, after a VAR review showed that Ismaeel Mohammad had handled the ball before shooting it. Meshaal then kept out Ismaeel’s close-range shot with a fine save in the 80th minute, before Al-Duhail finally managed to break his resistance. In the 86th minute, Dudu scored with a powerful shot that went in past Meshaal at his near post.
Akram Afif had two chances to score Al-Sadd’s fourth goal late on but he couldn’t manage to find the target. The referee went on to blow his whistle for full time, signalling a 3-1 win for Al-Sadd.
