Al-Sadd qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2021 Amir Cup, after registering a 7-0 win over Muaither in the Round of 16 clash which was played at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Tuesday.
Hashim Ali struck twice (10′, 30′) in the first half to put Al-Sadd in the driving seat, before Khoukhi Boualem (64′), Mohammed Waad (66′), Yousuf Abdurisag (78′, 90+2′) and Akram Afif (83′) added further goals in the second half to rack up a big scoreline.
The result means that Al-Sadd advance to the quarterfinals of the competition to face Al-Gharafa for a spot in the last four.
The Wolves started the game with several regulars on the bench but there was no difficulty in getting the breakthrough goal. It took only ten minutes for the opener; Akram Afif found Hashim Ali with a teasing cross, and the latter made no mistake with his volley to put his side 1-0 up.
At the half-hour mark, the duo combined once again to double Al-Sadd’s lead. Hashim timed his run perfectly to meet Akram’s low cross from the left and scored with another first-time finish.
The 2-0 lead remained for the rest of the first half, but after the break, the scoring resumed, and it was Khoukhi Boualem who got Al-Sadd’s third in the 64th minute. The Qatar international struck with a thunderous freekick from just outside the box, that left the keeper with no chance.
Two minutes later, substitute Mohammed Waad got on the scoresheet, converting Hashim’s pass to take the score to 4-0.
In the 78th minute, Yousuf Abdurisag was the beneficiary of a superb assist from Rodrigo Tabata, and he was able to then poke the ball past the keeper to score Al-Sadd’s fifth.
The sixth goal came courtesy of Akram Afif in the 83rd minute; after Ahmed Suhail’s free-kick rebounded off the crossbar, Akram got to the ball first and although the keeper saved his initial effort, he managed to score at the second attempt.
Finally, Yousuf netted his second of the night with a tap-in in the second minute of added time to conclude the scoring in a 7-0 victory for the Wolves.
