Abdullah Al Breik: It’s a balanced draw, we want to go to the farthest point in this tournament

Al-Sadd first team manager Abdullah Al-Breik shared his thoughts after the AFC Champions League 2021 group stage draw, which was held today at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The draw placed Al-Sadd in Group D, alongside Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia), Al-Wehdat (Jordan) and the winner from the playoff between Al-Ain (UAE) and Foolad (Iran).

Speaking to the club’s website, Al-Breik said: “The draw was balanced and all the participating teams will give everything to perform in the best way, in light of the intense clashes they will play, and the keenness of all teams to compete for the title of the most prestigious tournament in the continent.”

On his team’s campaign, Al-Breik said: “Al-Sadd has an important journey ahead of them in the tournament and the team has sufficient experience to achieve the best results in the group stage, and we will strive to move step by step to achieve this.”

The manager also noted that Al Sadd has in its ranks some of the best players at the moment, who have the ability to do well in the tournament.

He added: “I hope our participation in the tournament will be better than in the previous editions and we want to reach the farthest point in the tournament and achieve the title, and this is not new for Al Sadd, having won the title twice previously.”

Al-Sadd are currently on top of the QNB Stars League with 41 points after the fifteenth week of the competition, and Al-Breik spoke of the need to secure the league title before moving the focus on to Asia.

He remakred: “We must focus on the domestic tournaments and move closer to officially winning the league title and giving our best in the Amir Cup, in which Al-Sadd have reached the quarter-finals, and then devote ourselves to the Champions League and prepare for it in the most appropriate manner.”
