Al-Sadd registered a 3-0 victory over Al-Khor in the QNB Stars Leage Round 10 game which was played on Saturday at the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium.
Akram Afif opened the scoring for the Wolves with an early goal (3′) before Andre Ayew struck a double (25′, 40′) before halftime to make it 3-0. The result takes Al-Sadd’s points tally to 28 points, increasing the lead at the top of the table.
In coach Javi Gracia’s first game in charge of the team, Al-Sadd got off to a great start when Akram struck in the 3rd minute. The Qatari international star received a pass from Abdelkarim before finishing coolly past Al-Khor keeper Baba Djibril to make it 1-0.
The team continued to show their superiority, creating further chances, and in the 17th minute, Tabata almost doubled the lead but his stinging shot from distance was kept out by the keeper.
The second goal didn’t take much longer to arrive, and in the 25th minute, Andre Ayew had the simple task of tapping in from close range after being set up nicely with a squared ball from Ali Asad.
Ayew then made it 3-0, with a superb diving header in the 40th minute, following a corner delivered by Akram.
After the halftime break, Al-Sadd maintained their dominance but no further goals materialised despite the best efforts. Al-Khor created a few chances and came close to scoring through Ismail El Haddad and Kayke but Al-Sadd’s debutant keeper Yousef Abdullah did well to deny them.
Gracia then sent on Hassan Al-Haydos, Baghdad Bounedjah and Yousuf Abdurisag as the second half progressed to freshen up the team’s attack. In the 89th minute, Yousuf dribbled through the left wing and sent in a cross which was met by Bounedjah, but the effort was kept out by the defence.
The game thus went on to end in a 3-0 win for Al-Sadd, extending the team’s unbeaten record and registering their third clean sheet of the campaign as well.
