AFC Champions League 2021: Al Sadd drawn in Group D

The AFC Champions League 2021 group stage draw was held at the AFC’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

The draw placed Al-Sadd in Group D, which also includes Al-Nasr (KSA), Al-Wehdat (Jordan), and the winner from the play-off between Al-Ain (UAE) and Foolad (Iran).

The play-off between Al Ain and Foolad will be played on the seventh of April, and the group stage will then be held from 14-30 April in a centralised format. ... 

Xavi: We played a great game against Muaither

Al-Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his delight after his side’s big 7-0 win over Muaither in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Amir Cup.

In his comments at the post-match press conference, Xavi said: “We played a great game against Muaither as we have been doing recently. The young players were up to the responsibility and showed a great level – Bahaa, Hashim, Yousuf, in addition to Ali Asad and Salem Al-Hajri who were all excellent.” ... 

Amir Cup: Al-Sadd advance to the quarterfinals after 7-0 win over Muaither

Al-Sadd qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2021 Amir Cup, after registering a 7-0 win over Muaither in the Round of 16 clash which was played at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Tuesday.

Hashim Ali struck twice (10′, 30′) in the first half to put Al-Sadd in the driving seat, before Khoukhi Boualem (64′), Mohammed Waad (66′), Yousuf Abdurisag (78′, 90+2′) and Akram Afif (83′) added further goals in the second half to rack up a big scoreline. ... 

Akram Afif: We will play with full commitment against Muaither

Al-Sadd forward Akram Afif emphasised the importance of being focused, ahead of his side’s Amir Cup 2021 Round of 16 clash with Muaither.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Akram said: “Some people think that the match will be easy but there are many examples from around the world of teams going out to second division sides. Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa lost to Al Markhiya last season.” ... 

Xavi: Ready to face Muaither, we need to play with all our strength

Al-Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez spoke of his side’s readiness to face Muaither in the Amir Cup 2021 Round of 16 match which will be played on Tuesday evening at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, adding that the team is looking to win and reach the farthest point in the tournament.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Xavi said: “We are ready to compete against Muaither, a second division club. All the teams are strong and I expect a difficult match. This championship is very important to us. We look forward to competing in this tournament and winning it. All the teams always have motivation and are enthusiastic to play against Al Sadd.” ... 

Qatargas U-23 League: Al-Sadd defeat Al-Ahli 4-1 to stay on top

Al-Sadd stayed on top of the 2020-21 Qatargas U-23 League table after registering a 4-1 victory over Al-Ahli in the Round 13 game which was played on Friday at Al-Sailiya.

The result extended the Wolves’ tally to 33 points from 11 wins and two losses so far.

Faisal Azadi scored the opening goal for Al-Sadd in the 38th minute, before Abdullah Al-Yazidi doubled the lead in the 53rd minute. Al-Ahli then reduced the deficit through Omar Adam’s 78th minute penalty. ... 

Ahmed Suhail: Our respect for Al-Khor was the reason for this big win

Al-Sadd defender Ahmed Suhail attributed his side’s 7-0 victory over Al Khor in the QNB Stars League to the respect they gave to the opponents, and added that the competition was not over yet.

In his remarks after the match, Ahmed said: “We entered the match with the aim of winning and extending our lead, and we put pressure on the Al Khor goal and got a good result in the first half by scoring four goals.” ...

Al-Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez congratulated his players after the big 7-0 win over Al-Khor in Round 15 of the QNB Stars League, adding that the Wolves put up an excellent performance and deserve the great result.

In his comments to the club’s website, Xavi said: “I am happy with the win and the performance. We played a new kind of match, in terms of the magnificence of the performance, and I am happy with the players who had not played much before, including Ahmed Suhail, Musaab Khidir, Salem Al-Hajri and Tabata, who were more than excellent and deserve to be praised with the rest of the players.” ...
